Beach Softball Takes UC Riverside Series With Final Game Shutout

The Beach dropped UC Riverside 7-0 in the series finale.
White was outstanding in the circle for Long Beach State (16-19, 3-3 Big West), throwing her second shutout of the season while striking out six with no walks, showing complete command throughout the game and working around any trouble she did have during the game.

A leadoff walk from Tierra Falo in the second inning helped the Beach take an early lead. UC Riverside (20-15, 3-3 Big West) was able to get the next two outs, but a single from Naomi Hernandez put two on. A hit from Justine Briones then slipped under the glove of Nadia Witt in left field, allowing both runners to score as Long Beach State took a 2-0 lead.
Long Beach State added two more in the sixth with some efficient hitting. A single from Sydney McCollum and a walk to Briones put two on in front of the top of the order who delivered. Nichole Fry and Jamie Wren each hit RBI singles to push the Beach lead to four at 4-0.
The Beach added more insurance in the seventh. Alyssa Gonzalez led off the inning with a double and then scored as Maddy Ruffin's sacrifice bunt was thrown into the outfield. Lauren Lombardi followed with her second home run of the weekend, a two-run shot to make the score 7-0.

The Beach returns to the LBSU Softball Complex next weekend for the team's conference home opener in a critical home series against Cal State Fullerton. Saturday's doubleheader will be broadcast live on ESPN3, while the finale Sunday against the Titans will be on national television on ESPNU at 1 p.m.
