No. 2 Long Beach State Cruises to 3-0 Win Over UC San Diego

The Beach hit .450 in the match to improve to 7-0 in Big West action

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The No. 2 Long Beach State men's volleyball team had a solid outing on Friday night at the Walter Pyramid as the Beach rolled over UC San Diego in straight sets, 3-0 [25-14, 25-22, 25-17].
Long Beach State (22-1, 7-0 Big West) hit .450 in the match and limited UC San Diego (7-16, 0-7 Big West) to a .127 attack percentage as the Beach won their 39th consecutive home contest.
Senior setter Josh Tuaniga paced the offense that collected 44 kills on 80 attempts, while committing just eight attack errors. Tuaniga finished the match with 36 assists, while contributing three kills of his own, while adding four digs and a pair of blocks.
Kyle Ensing (11 kills) and TJ DeFalco (10 kills) reached double figures for the 15th and 14th time, respectively, this season. In his career, DeFalco has now tallied 91 10-plus kill matches to tie for third all-time at Long Beach State.
Ensing hit .556 (11-1-18) in the match and led the team with eight digs, while DeFalco had a .444 (10-2-18) clip, while finishing with seven digs. DeFalco also chipped in a pair of aces to bring his career total to 166.
The Beach defense was on point all night as they held the Tritons to a mere .127 attack percentage (22-13-71). Senior libero Jordan Molina anchored the defense with four digs, while Nick Amado guarded the net putting up five blocks. Ensing, meanwhile added three block assists.
Long Beach State received a boost off the bench as Shane Holdaway, Ethan Siegfried and Carlos Rivera came in and made several key plays. Holdaway was perfect as he connected on three kills on as many swings, while Siegfried hit .400 (2-0-5). Holdaway served up a pair of aces and collected a solo block in a solid performance for the freshman middle blocker.

The Beach never hit below .400 in a frame as they dominated the match rolling over the Tritons 25-14 in the first set and 25-17 in the third.
UC San Diego put up a fight in the second set, but Long Beach State pulled away and took the set by a three-point margin (25-22).
LBSU never trailed in the third and final set. The Beach knocked down 15 kills on 29 swings with just two attack errors and owned a sideout percentage of 83% as they cruised to a 25-17 victory en route to completing the sweep.
UCSD was led by Collin Shannon who concluded the match with seven kills, a .333 attack percentage, six digs, and a pair of aces.
Long Beach State and UC San Diego will meet once again on Saturday, April 6 at the RIMAC Arena in La Jolla, Calif. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
