Men’s Golf Headed to Hawai’i for Big West Championship

Long Beach State will look to sweep the 2019 Big West Golf Championships starting Monday as the men’s team tries to follow up the women’s golf championship from last week. The Beach will play Monday and Tuesday at Wailua Golf Course in Lihue, Hawai’i.
LIHUE, Hawai'i – Long Beach State men's golf is headed back to the islands for the 2019 Big West Men's Golf Championship, to be played Apr. 29-30 at Wailua Golf Course in Lihue, Hawai'i. The Beach will be playing their second tournament at the course this season after tying for ninth at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in late February. The event opens with 36 holes on Monday, Apr. 29 followed by the final 18 on Tuesday.
The Beach will be the No. 3 seed at the tournament, behind top-seeded Cal State Fullerton and No. 2 seed UC Davis. The lineup for Long Beach State will feature senior Joe Fryer at the top, followed by junior Hunter Epson, freshman Tyler Schafer, freshman Bryce Kvick and junior Hunter Reed.
Long Beach State will tee off from the first hole, grouped with Fullerton and Davis. The Beach will start Monday's opening round with a 7:30 a.m. HT/10:30 a.m. PT tee time.
Schafer will be looking to repeat the success he had on the Par-72, 6,991-yard golf course back in February. The freshman recorded his first career Top 5 finish at the Burns Intercollegiate, finishing in a tie for fourth with a score of 7-under for the tournament. He finished the event with consecutive 67's to move up 60 spots on the player leaderboard and help LBSU to a ninth-place finish against a strong field.
