No. 10 Long Beach State Drops a Pair of Matches in Regular Season Finale

The Beach took two sets off of No. 15 GCU, suffered 5-0 setback at top-ranked UCLA
LOS ANGELES – The Long Beach State beach volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the final day of the regular season after falling, 3-2, to No. 15 Grand Canyon and suffering a 5-0 setback at No. 1 UCLA.
With the pair of losses, the Beach drops to 18-9 on the year, while the Lopes improve to 20-11, and the Bruins move to 28-1.
The Beach's top flight of Mari Molina and Megan Kruidhof led the way against Grand Canyon as the duo picked up a 21-18, 21-18 victory over the Lopes' Jessica Stansfield and Bella Bauman. Kendra Koelsch and Kenzie Holtz, who played at No. 3, also earned a win as the pair defeated Katie Hess and Hannah Towne, 23-21, 18-21, 15-12 to even the match at two sets apiece.
With the match tied at 2-2, Tyler Spriggs and Sophie Major came up short against Taylor Jarzombek and Esmee Preiem, 21-10, 21-13, as the Beach fell, 3-2.
After dropping a close match to Grand Canyon, the Beach went up against top-ranked UCLA in Westwood. The Bruins were on their game and handed Long Beach State a 5-0 loss as the Beach were unable to take a set off of UCLA.
Long Beach State, which has dropped four of its last five matches, looks to get back on the winning track at the Big West Conference Tournament on April 26 and 27 in Malibu, Calif.
