Charlie Vernoy Earns Big West Field Athlete of the Week

Earns honors after a solid performance at the Triton Invitational.

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State junior thrower Charlie Vernoy was named Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week. Vernoy earned the honors after unleashing a personal-best effort at the Triton Invitational hosted by UCSD.

The junior out of Ventura, Calif. led the Beach in the men's open section of the discus throw as he recorded a lifetime best of 56.73m (186-01.00). Vernoy Broke his previous best mark by nine feet to win the event. He also finished in 11th place in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.67m (182-08.00).

The mark moved him into the top spot in the Big West Conference by more than three feet, also putting him at 14th in the West Region, and 17th nationally.

Vernoy and the Beach will be back in action with a busy weekend at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and 25th Annual Beach Invitational at the Jack Rose Track.
