Fryer and Schafer Shoot 1-Under on Final Day of El Macero Classic

Senior Joe Fryer and freshman Tyler Schafer each shot 1-under rounds of 71 on Sunday to lead the way for Long Beach State in the final round of the El Macero Classic. Fryer and junior Hunter Epson tied for 11th place to post the top finish for the Beach in the event.
EL MACERO, Calif. – Long Beach State completed action at the El Macero Classic on Sunday, with senior Joe Fryer and freshman Tyler Schafer both going under par to lead the way in the final round. Both players posted a 71 on Sunday to post a 1-under round, as LBSU took ninth in the event.
Fryer's 71 was his best round of the tournament and helped him into a tie for 11th place on the player leaderboard. He was joined in 11th by junior Hunter Epson, who shot a 2-over 74 on Sunday.
Schafer nearly posted the low round of the day across the entire field, but had a few tough holes on the back nine. The Long Beach native had seven birdies in his final round, and was five shots under par after his birdie on No. 15. Unfortunately, a bogey on 16 and a triple on 17 moved his score back closer to par, but it was still a strong round overall for the freshman.
Junior Hunter Reed also posted his lowest round of the weekend with a 2-over 74.
Next up for the Beach is the Big West Championship at Wailua Golf Club in Lihue, Hawai'i. The three-day tournament starts Monday, Apr. 29 and runs through May 1.
