Beach Golf Takes Second at Sacramento State Invitational

Long Beach State was the runner-up at the 2019 Sacramento State Invitational, shooting -10 as a team to finish a shot ahead of Grand Canyon in third place. Junior Hunter Epson recorded the best finish of his career, taking third by shooting -8 for the week.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Hunter Epson finished in third place to help propel Long Beach State to a runner-up finish at the Sacramento State Invitational at Valley Hi Country Club. The Beach finished one shot ahead of Grand Canyon with a score of -10 as a team.
Epson recorded the best finish of his career and was just two shots back of the tournament winner. All three of Epson's rounds were under par, shooting 4-under in round one and closing his tournament with a 3-under 69 in Tuesday's final round. His final 18 holes were very active, especially early in his round. Epson started his day with a par on No. 8, then had three birdies and four bogeys over the next seven holes. From there on out, it was all to the good as he eagled the Par-4 17th and then made birdies on Nos. 2 and 4 to finish 3-under. The result was Epson's best career finish and his second Top 5 finish of the campaign.
Also in the Top 10 on the player leaderboard was senior Joe Fryer, who finished tied for ninth on the strength of his first two rounds. He ended up shooting 4-under for the tournament to collect his fourth Top 15 finish of the season.
It was also a solid tournament for freshman Bryce Kvick, who recorded his best finish at Long Beach State. His score of +1 was good enough for a tie for 21st place on the leaderboard. With Tyler Schafer finishing tied for 33rd and Patrick Pockels tied for 39th, every member of the Long Beach State lineup earned a Top 40 finish at the event.
LBSU will be back on the golf course at the end of the month, competing in the Duck Invitational Mar. 25-26 in Cresswell, Ore.
