Schafer’s Strong Second Round Highlights Day One at Duck Invitational

Long Beach State freshman Tyler Schafer fired a 2-under round of 70 during Monday’s second round at the Duck Invitational up in Oregon. That represented the low round of the day for the Beach and moved Schafer into a tie for 12th with 18 holes to play.
CRESSWELL, Ore. – Long Beach State completed the first 36 holes at Emerald Valley Golf Club on Tuesday at the Duck Invitational, sitting in 14th as a team with 18 holes left to play on Tuesday.
Freshman Tyler Schafer has the best score for Long Beach State after day one, sitting in a tie for 12th on the leaderboard with a score of 1-over. His 2-under second round represented the best 18 holes of the day for Long Beach State, featuring four birdies and a pair of bogeys. He was one of just five golfers in the 88-player field to shoot 2-under or better in the second round.
Earlier in the day, senior Joe Fryer made his mark early, getting as low as 3-under on two occasions during his first round. After starting on No. 6, he made back-to-back birdies on 7 and 8 to get off to a great start. His birdie on 18 had him 3-under heading to the first tee, and he finished his round with a score of 71. He currently sits in a tie for 44th after two rounds of play.
Action at the Duck Invitational will resume with Tuesday's final round at 8:15 a.m. with a shotgun start.
