CRESSWELL, Ore. – Long Beach State concluded the Duck Invitational on Tuesday at Emerald Valley Golf Club, moving up two spots on the team leaderboard to finish 12th. The Beach also had two individual golfers finish inside the Top 20 at the event.
Freshman Tyler Schafer was LBSU's top performer for the tournament, closing his ledger with a 2-over round of 74 on Tuesday. His total score of 3-over placed him in a tie for 13th, alongside a pair of national Top 100-ranked players from Oregon and Oregon State. Schafer's 70 in round two tied for the best round of the tournament for LBSU, along with senior Joe Fryer.
Fryer shot his 2-under round on Tuesday to shoot up the leaderboard into a tie for 16th place. That's a leap of 27 spots after day one as he concluded the tournament at 4-over. His round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 3rd hole and he had back-to-back birdies on Nos. 8 & 9.
The Beach will return to the golf course on Apr. 12-14 at El Macero Country Club for the El Macero Classic hosted by UC Davis. That event will be the team's final tune-up before the Big West Championships.
