Emma Bardet battled back to claim Long Beach State’s singles point.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State closed out their time in the Rhodes Tennis Center this season with a 6-1 loss to UC Santa Barbara Saturday. Emma Bardet battled back for a three-set win in singles, while Natalia Munoz and Lalita Devarakonda improved on their sparkling doubles record despite LBSU dropping the point.

Munoz and Devarakonda improved to 10-2 on the season in dual match doubles, winning 6-2 over Anastasia Goncharova and Juliana Valero, but Long Beach State (11-4, 4-2 Big West) fell in the other two doubles matches as UC Santa Barbara (8-6, 2-0 Big West) captured the day's momentum. Amit Lev-Ari and Lise Sentanac evened the point with a 6-3 win over Zara Lennon and Carlota Casasempere, and then a 6-4 defeat from Dominique Meyer and Wiktoria Rutkowska in the top flight gave the point to the Gauchos.

Goncharova rebounded from her doubles loss to give UCSB their first point, winning 6-1, 6-4 over Dominique Meyer, and Lev-Ari won in the top flight against Rutkowska 6-3, 6-4. Tiffany Lagarde then closed out the win for UCSB with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Munoz at No. 3.

The remaining three matches all went to a third set. Bardet's comeback win over Elizabeta Voldoko was the highlight of singles for the Beach, playing out all three sets due to a quick 6-0 loss in the first set. The LBSU freshman bounced back to win the second set tiebreak, and then rolled to a 6-1 win in the third set to grab Long Beach State's point.

With the match decided, the other two matches played to completion through super-tiebreakers. The Gauchos won both, though, with Valero beating Devarakonda 6-3, 5-7, 10-7 and Sentenac defeating Lennon 6-2, 5-7, 10-8.

Long Beach State will now play four final matches on the road prior to the start of the Big West Tournament. The Beach will start with a trip to Central California, facing UC Davis and Fresno State next weekend starting Saturday, April 6.
