
LBSU T&F Finish Day One of Competition at the Don Kirby Invitational

The Beach prepares for the final day of competition.
Day One Results
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Beach started out competition at the Don Kirby Invite on Friday evening, with a solid day of results. Senior Vincent Calhoun finished fifth in the high jump, clearing a height of 6-11.50 to improve his mark from two weeks ago at the Air Force Invitational in his comeback season. Teammate Jason Smith followed with a clearance of 6-11.50 to tie with Calhoun and headline the first day of competition.
Also on the field, senior Kemonie Briggs broke his indoor meet record of 25-03.25 in the long jump with a mark of 25-07.25 to finish second in the competition and tie for 13th on the national level. He continues to hold the number one spot on the Long Beach State Indoor all-time list. Jason Smith followed with a jump of 24-11.00, finishing in fifth place and moving up to third on the all-time list.
In the throws, Josh Carr finished the day of competition with a new indoor PR in the weight throw with a mark of 63-11.50. Charlie Vernoy also improved his mark with a throw of 59-10.50
In the women's jumps, Bria Palmer had a solid evening of competition, finishing in third and clearing 5-07.75 to put up points for the Beach. Senior Diana Acholonu was also a point scorer in the high jump, finishing in eighth place with a clearance of 5-05.75. Senior Melanee Williams tied her personal best with a jump of 18.07.75, leading all Big West competitors in this event. Sydney Barnes had a solid performance in the long jump as well, finishing with a mark of 17-08.00.
On the track, sophomore Faris Babineaux was the top finisher for the Beach in the 200-meter dash, winning his heat and running a new indoor PR of 21.92. He also improved on his 400m time, finishing fourth in his heat and clocking in at 49.44.
The women's 200m consisted of three competitors for the Beach. Courtne' Davis had a solid performance, running a time of 24.24. Junior Azaria Hill followed with a time of 24.83 and Skylin Harbin at 25.31.
The Beach will be back in action on Saturday with women's pole vault in the field and sprints, hurdles and relays on the track.
