LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State women's basketball team earned a commanding 94-47 victory over Westcliff in the Beach's home opener on Saturday afternoon at Homecoming inside the Walter Pyramid.
The Beach (1-1) were led by junior Shanaijah Davison's 21-point performance as she tallied her 16th 20-plus point effort of her career. Davison shot 61.5-percent from the field as she connected on 8-of-13 field goals to lead the Beach. She paced the Long Beach State offense, which shot 49.3-percent (35-for-71) and saw five players, including Davison, reach double figures. Behind Davison, Jasmine Hardy added 16 points, while Cydnee Kinslow notched 13, freshman Alexis Legan recorded 12 in her collegiate debut, and Ma'Qhi Berry added 10.
With the offense clicking, the Long Beach State defense stepped up and held Westcliff (2-4) to a mere 28-percent from the field as the Warriors were forced into 34 turnovers, while LBSU collected 21 steals. The Beach capitalized on Westcliff's mistakes scoring 54 points off turnovers

Long Beach State used an 18-2 run in the second quarter to break the game open and take a commanding 40-15 lead over Westcliff. From there, the Beach cruised as they extended their lead to as many as 50 with just 2:03 remaining in the game as LBSU held a 94-44 lead over the Warriors. With a 50-point lead, the Beach were looking to set a new program record for margin of victory besting the previous record of 49 set in 1999 with a 91-42 win over Cal State Fullerton. However, Westcliff's Murrellene Woodson sunk a three with just six ticks left on the clock to bring the final to 94-47.
In the dominating victory, 11 Beach players saw action with each one contributing. Nine players scored, while all 11 recorded at least one assist and one rebound in the contest.
Kinslow led the defensive effort with a career-high seven steals, while freshman Kristyna Jeskeova added four steals to go along with seven rebounds, six points, and two assists in her collegiate debut.
Westcliff was limited to just one double figure scorer in Mmmusu Secka (10 points), while Andrece Tate cleaned up the glass with five boards.
Long Beach State looks to bring the momentum from its strong showing into next week's contest at No. 11 UCLA on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. at Pauley Pavilion.
