Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball Signs Six for 2021 Season

The half dozen incoming freshman class is comprised of two outside hitters, two opposites, and two middle blockers
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State head men's volleyball coach Alan Knipe announced the signing of six talented incoming freshman who will play for the Beach for the 2021 season. The recruiting class consists of opposite/outside hitter Nato Dickinson, outside hitter Clarke Godbold, middle blocker Matthew Iamaleava, middle blocker Noah Robin, outside hitter Sebastian Rodriguez, and opposite Simon Torwie.
"This group of young men will have an immediate impact on our program," Knipe stated. "They are great additions to our Long Beach State team culture. They all have a high level of volleyball IQ, and they know how to compete at the highest level. They want to work as hard as they can in order to be the best that they are capable of being. They have all had success at the junior level and, some, at the international level. They will come to us after being coached by some of the nation's best coaches, and we are very excited to welcome these amazing young men and their families to our Long Beach State Men's Volleyball family."

Nato Dickinson
Fr. | 6-7 | OPP/OH | Newport Beach, Calif. | Corona Del Mar HS | Pinnacle Athletic Club
Dickinson comes to the Beach after having played both opposite and outside hitter at Corona Del Mar High School and for Pinnacle Athletic Club. Dickinson is a 2019 USA Youth A1 National Training Team member and will bring a wealth of volleyball experience with him to the Beach.

Clarke Godbold
Fr. | 6-5 | OH | Palos Verdes, Calif. | Palos Verdes Peninsula HS | SCVC
Godbold is an outside hitter who brings an abundance of Junior National Team experience to Long Beach State. A member of the 2018 and 2019 USA Youth National Team, Godbold was named the 2019 Volleyball Magazine Player of the Year after leading the 2019 USA Junior National Team to a Gold Medal and being named to the All-American Team. Godbold previous won a Gold Medal with the 2017 USA Junior National Team en route to being selected to the All-American Team.

Matthew Iamaleava
Fr. | 6-6 | MB | Long Beach, Calif. | Long Beach Poly HS | Rockstar Volleyball Club
Iamaleava is a local product out of Long Beach Poly High School where he played middle blocker. A solid player for Rockstar Volleyball Club, Iamaleava helped lead his squad to the 2019 Junior Nationals where they earned a Bronze Medal. He was named to the All-American Team for his efforts.

Noah Robin
Fr. | 6-7 | MB | Huntington Beach, Calif. | Huntington Beach HS | Pinnacle Athletic Club
Robin is a 6-foot-7 middle blocker who has played for both Huntington Beach High School and Pinnacle Athletic Club. His size and knowledge of the game will be an asset to Long Beach State in the middle.

Sebastian Rodriguez
Fr. | 6-5 | OH | Redondo Beach, Calif. | Redondo Union HS | Balboa Bay Volleyball Club
Rodriguez signed with the Beach after earning year of experience playing at Junior Nationals where he was a two-time All-American, two-time Gold Medalist, and was named 2018 MVP. The 2019 Volleyball Magazine All-American was also a 2018 and 2019 USA Youth National Team alternate.

Simon Torwie
Fr. | 6-10 | OPP | Frankfurt, Germany | Carl-Von-Weinberg-Schule | German Youth National Team
Torwie comes to Long Beach State all the way from Frankfurt, Germany where the 6-foot-10 opposite excelled for the German National Team. The only international signee in the 2020 recruiting class, Torwie will bring both size and experience to the Beach.
