Beach Men’s Golf Sits in Fifth Place Heading into the Final Round at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational

Sophomore Tyler Schafer leads the way for LBSU as he is tied for sixth while shooting 8-under par
FAIRFAX, Calif. – After two rounds at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational hosted by Cal, Long Beach State is in fifth place as the Beach shot a 277 in the first round before firing a 273 in the second for 18-under par.
Sophomore Tyler Schafer leads the Beach as he is tied for sixth place after shooting 8-under par. Schafer opened the day with three birdies and an eagle in the first round, before following that performance with a second round in which he sink four-straight birdies on holes 14-17 before notching his second eagle of the day on the first hole.
Continuing his solid play from last week, senior Hunter Epson is tied for ninth place as he shot 7-under par with a 67 and 68 in the first two rounds.
As a team, the Beach finished the second round strong as they moved up two spots from seventh to fifth place to close out the first day of the tournament. After two rounds of action, Long Beach State sits behind Pepperdine (-29), St. Mary's (-24), Cal (-22), and Boise State (-19). The Beach are just one stroke behind the Broncos and just four strokes behind the host Bears.
Long Beach State concludes the Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at The Meadow Club.
