Long Beach State Set to Take on CSUN in Saturday Road Contest
The Long Beach State women's volleyball team looks to snap a six-match losing streak this weekend when the Beach travel to Northridge, Calif., to take on CSUN on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Matadome. The match between LBSU and CSUN is the lone contest for the Beach this week and will kick off a three-match road swing.

About The Beach
• Long Beach State is looking to snap a six-match losing streak. The Beach are 3-11 overall and looking for their first victory since a 3-2 win over South Florida at the Gator Invitational.
• The Beach opened up Big West Conference action with a pair of setbacks against Cal Poly (3-0) and No. 11 Hawaii (3-1).
• Sophomore outside hitter Kashauna Williams leads Long Beach State offensively with 4.06 kills per set on .221 hitting. She also adds 0.94 digs and 0.43 blocks per set. Williams has led the Beach in kills in 10 matches thus far.
• Senior libero Hailey Harward paces the Beach in the back row with 3.85 digs per set. She has accumulated 1,352 career digs as she sits in the top 5 all-time at Long Beach State. 
• Harward has amassed 102 service aces in her career and is just 13 shy of breaking into the Long Beach State career record book.
• Setters Tia Chavira and Carly Aigner-Swesey have both seen action on the court this season as Chavira leads the way with 8.90 assists per set, while Aigner-Swesey averages 8.59.
• At the net, Kjersti Norveel and Xue led the way with 1.22 and 0.81 blocks per set, respectively.
• Xue has amassed 343 career block assists and sits in ninth in the Long Beach State career record book.
• The Beach were chosen to finish fifth in the Big West Preseason Coaches Poll behind Cal Poly, Hawaii, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Irvine, respectively.

Scouting The Matadors
CSUN owns a 5-9 overall record and is 0-2 in the Big West after opening conference play last week with a pair of losses to UC Santa Barbara (3-2) and No. 11 Hawaii (3-1). 

The Matadors' Seyvion Waggonor leads the offensive attack with 3.73 kills per set, while hitting .212. She also adds 0.40 blocks per set and 0.62 digs per set.

At setter, Kamalu Makeau-Whittaker splits time with Hanna Merjil as Makeau-Whittaker averages 9.53 assists per set, while Merjil dishes out 8.00 assists per set.

Defensively, libero Makayla Bradford paces the back row with 3.51 digs per set, while Morgan Salone leads the squad with 38 total blocks for an average of 0.78 per set.

The Series: LBSU vs. CSUN
Long Beach State leads the all-time series with CSUN 56-24 and has won nine of the last 10 matches. The Matadors lone win in that stretch came in 2017 when they defeated the Beach in four at the Matadome.

LBSU in the BWC
The Beach have a trio of players who rank in the top three among Big West Conference opponents in statistical categories. Kashauna Williams is second in kills per set with 4.06, while Hailey Harward is second in digs per set with 3.85. Freshman setter Tia Chavira sits in third with 8.90 assists per set.

Killin' It
Sophomore outside hitter Kashauna Williams leads the Beach offense with 4.06 kills per set. She is the only LBSU player to average more than four kills per set. Additionally, she has led Long Beach State in kills in 10 of the team's 14 matches thus far. 

Can You Dig It?
Hailey Harward has amassed 208 digs this season to average 3.85 digs per set. She sits in fifth place all-time at Long Beach State with 1,352 career digs. She is 60 digs away from taking fourth

Block Party
Senior middle blocker YiZhi Xue is in ninth place all-time at the Beach with 343 block assists. She leads the team with 44 total blocks and is second on the squad with 0.81 blocks per set.

Up Next
Long Beach State continues its road swing with matches at UC Davis and UC Riverside. The Beach will play the Aggies on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m., before returning to southern California to take on the Highlanders on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
