Davis, Shourds In Top Ten After Day Two At Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown

Long Beach State sits fourth after two days with one more round to play.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Golf remained near the top of the leader board Monday afternoon after the second of three rounds at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
Overall as a team, Long Beach State finished the day in fourth place after recording a second straight team score of 301. With one round to play, the Beach trail only hosts and leaders UNLV, South Dakota State and San Francisco. The Beach are just three strokes behind SDSU and USF who are tied for second in the 18-team field.
"We are really close to breaking through," said head coach Joey Cerulle. "We are leading the field in par fours and putts will begin to drop soon. I know we're all looking forward to leaving it all on the course tomorrow."
Senior Maria Davis led the way on day two for the Beach. Finishing with five birdies, Davis was one-over par and closed round two with a score of 73. That was good for a share of the team lead with yesterday's top scorer Holland Shourds, who shot a 76 on Monday. The pair finished the day tied for ninth overall, five-over after two rounds.
Hunter Pate had a good second round as well, shooting a two-over par 74 to finish the day one stroke behind Davis and Shourds for the tournament in a tie for 36th. Euna Pak rounded out the scoring for the Beach, shooting 78 on day two for a tie for 36th.
Hannah Ko finished with a seven-over 79 for the second straight day, while sophomore Morgan Polley continued to compete as an individual.
Play concludes Tuesday with a final round at Boulder Creek Golf Course. Live scoring will once again be available at www.golfstat.com.
