Women’s Golf In Top Three After Opening Day At Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown

Senior Holland Shourds shot a one-over 73 to lead the team after the opening round.
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – After the first day of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, Long Beach State took advantage of a strong back nine to push up into a tie for third place after the first round on Sunday in an 18 team field.
Senior Holland Shourds led the way for Long Beach State, carding a one-over par 73 with a pair of birdies on the back nine. That was a trend for the Beach on the day, who ended the day five strokes off of the team lead after late charge while battling windy conditions in Boulder City, Nev. at the Boulder Creek Golf Club. Shourds stood in seventh place after the first of three rounds.
Senior Euna Pak dropped in four birdies in the back nine to continue the theme finishing the day four-over par in a tie for 18th, joined by sophomore Hunter Pate. Pate, returning to her hometown was one-under on the back-nine to also shoot a four-over 76 on the day. Senior Maria Davis finished with the same score in her return to the lineup.
The trend followed for Hannah Ko as well, who withstood a tough first six holes to close the second half of the day dropping just one more stroke off of par, closing the day tied for 49th overall.
Sophomore Morgan Polley joined the team for the trip and competed as an individual. She tied for the best score among that group, shooting a four-over par 77.
Teams will return to the Boulder Creek Golf Club Monday for the second round before the tournament concludes on Tuesday. Follow the action at www.golfstat.com.
