Top-Ranked Beach Earn 3-0 Victory Over No. 12 Concordia

Long Beach State is off to a 2-0 start at the UCSB Asics Invitational

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Several solid performances lifted the No. 1 Long Beach State men's volleyball team to a 3-0 [25-19, 25-22, 28-26] victory over No. 12 Concordia Irvine on Friday at Rob Gym at the UCSB Asics Invitational.
With the win, the Beach improve to 2-0 on the year, while the Eagles drop to 0-2.
LBSU received a team effort as the Beach saw seniors TJ DeFalco and Kyle Ensing both reach double figures. DeFalco led the way with 13 kills, while Ensing added 12. Sophomore Simon Andersen turned in another strong showing as he added seven kills while hitting .500 (7-1-12).
As a team, the Beach hit .360 thanks to senior setter Josh Tuaniga. Tuaniga finished the match 36 assists, while adding six digs and four kills.
Also playing well on both sides of the ball was senior Louis Richard who notched a career-high 10 digs to go along with six kills and a .462 attack percentage (6-0-13).
Defensively, LBSU got a stout effort from senior libero Jordan Molina (8 digs) as well as redshirt senior middle blocker Nick Amado (3 blocks) and DeFalco (3 blocks).
The Beach started the match off strong and took the first set, 25-19, after out-hitting the Eagles .462 to .156.
Long Beach State's strong offensive showing in the second set led to a .458 attack percentage for the team as the Beach claimed the game, 25-22.
With the Beach leading two sets to none, Concordia bounded back and fought Long Beach State hard in the third set. The two teams battled through 12 ties and seven lead changes as the match went down to the wire. With the game knotted at 26-26, LBSU's Richard stepped up and slammed down a kill to send it to match point. Richard wasn't done as he won the set and match with an ace, 28-26.

The Beach will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 5 against Harvard at 5:30 p.m. for the final day of the UCSB Invitational.
