The Beach and Cal State Fullerton were picked one and two, matching their finish from last season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State softball was picked to finish second the Big West Preseason Coaches poll as announced by the Big West on Thursday.
The Beach is coming off of a tremendous season, where the team went 43-13 and finished ranked in the Top 25 while making the program's 24th NCAA Postseason appearance. LBSU enters the season ranked No. 25 in the USA Softball preseason poll.
Cal State Fullerton took the top spot, receiving six first-place votes as the defending champions and earning 62 total points. Long Beach State was the clear second choice, finishing just seven points behind the Titans and also claiming a first-place vote.
The final first place vote went to UC Davis, who was picked third in a crowded middle, just in front of Hawai'i, CSUN, and UC Riverside. Cal Poly was picked to finish seventh, with UC Santa Barbara bringing up the bottom.
Long Beach State returns the top of the offensive lineup from one season ago in senior Nichole Fry, defending Big West Freshman of the Year Naomi Hernandez and 2018 All-American Taylor Rowland, and has a number of exciting additions that should once again see LBSU as one of the top offensive teams in the nation.
In the circle, Long Beach State brings back junior Devyn Magnett who won 10 games for the Beach as a sophomore, and also welcomes in a pair of Division I transfers in Utah State's Kellie White and Ashley Coleman from Cal Baptist who will also be counted on to contribute.
