Dirtbags Picked Third in Big West Preseason Coaches Poll
1/30/2019 12:27:00 PM | Baseball
Long Beach State was tabbed for a third-place finish in the 2019 Big West Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll. The Dirtbags were one of four teams to receive a first-place vote and are expected to be among the title contenders in a competitive Big West race this season.
IRVINE, Calif. – The Big West Baseball Coaches offered their predictions for the upcoming season on Wednesday with Long Beach State checking in third in the 2019 Preseason Coaches Poll. The Dirtbags are expected to improve on last year's fifth-place finish after winning the Big West crown in 2017.
Â
Long Beach State is one of four schools to receive a first-place vote, joining predicted favorite Cal State Fullerton (three first-place votes), UC Irvine (four) and Cal Poly (one). Despite having more first-place votes, the Anteaters are second in the poll with 67 overall points, narrowly trailing Fullerton's 70. Long Beach State has 62 points in third while Cal Poly is close behind with 60. That means the top four of the conference is just 10 points apart, highlighting what could be a highly competitive conference race in 2019.
Â
The schedule should represent a challenge for the Dirtbags if the predictions hold true, since LBSU is going on the road to face three of the top four teams joining them in the top half of the conference. The Dirtbags open conference action at No. 2 UC Irvine Apr. 5-7, host No. 4 Cal Poly from Apr. 18-20, and then hit the road for consecutive road series at No. 5 UC Santa Barbara May 10-12 and at No. 1 Cal State Fullerton May 17-19.
Â
Season tickets for the 2019 Dirtbags season are available online now starting at just $99 per seat, and single-game tickets will go on sale Feb. 11. For more information on Dirtbags tickets, call or text the Long Beach State Ticket Office at (562) 985-2282. The 2019 season gets underway Feb. 15 as Long Beach State opens a three-game series at No. 3 Florida in Gainesville. LBSU's home opener is Tuesday, Feb. 19 against San Diego on Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
