DAY ONE RESULTS
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Long Beach State concluded day one of the Arizona Intercollegiate on Monday at Sewailo Golf Club, with junior Hunter Epson leading the way for the Beach in a tie for the 21st spot after 36 holes of play. Epson's 4-under 67 in round two was one of the best numbers of the day, with only eight rounds out of the 160 played on Monday finishing with a better score.
Three players shot 1-under for the Beach in the opening round, with Joe Fryer, Bryce Kvick, and Tyler Schafer shooting 70's over the first 18 holes. Epson checked in with a 2-over 73 in the first round, but was six shots better on his next trip around the golf course. It was his second-best round of the campaign after finishing the fall schedule with a third-round 66 at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Oct. 27.
Epson started his second round on the 13th hole, picking up a shot on the 14th before falling back to even par two holes later. From there, the Long Beach native would birdie Nos. 1, 8, 10, and 12, ending his round on a high note to sit at 2-under for the tournament with a total of 140 on the day.
Action will resume tomorrow morning for the Beach as the final round of the event gets underway with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
