Junior Hunter Epson recorded the best finish of his college career at the Arizona Intercollegiate, finishing in a tie for 13th. The Long Beach native shot a 67 for the second consecutive round on Tuesday to lower his score 6-under for the tournament.

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Beach men's golf concluded the Arizona Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Sewailo Golf Club, getting strong performances from junior Hunter Epson and senior Joe Fryer. Both players were 4-under on Tuesday, shooting rounds of 67 to help Long Beach State post a number of 2-under for the final round.

For Epson, it was his second straight round of 67, which helped him shoot 6-under for the tournament and secure a fourth Top 15 finish in his collegiate career. He finished the event tied for 13th, which is his best career finish across his time at Pepperdine and Long Beach State. Epson had an active final round, collecting nine pars, five birdies, three bogeys and an eagle, which he collected on the Par-5 8th hole. Epson was 1-under through 12 holes, but collected three birdies over his final six holes to surge up the leaderboard. Epson finished the tournament ahead of five nationally-ranked opponents and was two strokes outside of the Top 10.

Fryer also posted a 67 to jump up 23 spots into a tie for 32nd on the leaderboard. The senior shook off a tough second round and ended up 1-under for the tournament, thanks to his 4-under on Tuesday. Oddly enough, he started and ended his final round with bogeys, first on 18 and then on 17 to conclude his day. But in between, Fryer was cooking with six birdies and 10 pars. From holes 10-15, Fryer birdied four times to go from -1 to -5 at that point in the round.

Additionally, sophomore Connor Nelson shot his low round of the tournament with a 73 on Tuesday.

Long Beach State will return to the golf course Feb. 11-12 at the USC Intercollegiate, hosted by San Diego. The event will take place at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. with 36 holes played on Monday and the final round on Tuesday. That event represents LBSU's final event in Southern California this season.
