
Long Beach State Sits Third After Day One at The Farms Invitational

Sophomore Connor Nelson shot a career-best round of 69 in round one and junior Hunter Epson had the low score in round two when play was suspended due to darkness. Long Beach State is in third as a team heading into Tuesday’s action in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. -- The Beach sat in second place after 18 holes at The Farms Invitational on Monday, but round two was suspended due to darkness with just a few holes remaining. Sophomore Connor Nelson shot a career-best round of 69 (-3) to sit in second place after 18 holes.
Based on unconfirmed scores through most of round two, Nelson remains in the top 10 on the leaderboard, tied for eighth. Junior Hunter Epson has the low score of round two with 15 holes completed, shooting 2-under for the round to sit at +1 for the tournament. Epson is currently tied for fourth through 33 holes.
Nelson's first round started with a flurry, as he birdied five of his first eight holes and had a total of seven birdies in his round. He remained near the top of the leaderboard for most of the day, and despite a double bogey on his final hole of the day, remains in the Top 10 and in contention for his best career finish with a little more than one round to play.
After shooting a 75 in the opening round with 15 pars and three bogeys, Epson was able to pick up two shots through his first 15 in round two. That allowed him to move up 11 spots on the leaderboard with three more to play prior to the final round on Tuesday morning.
In current team scoring, based on unofficial scoring, Long Beach State sits in third place at 10-over, just one shot back of LMU in second place. The Beach has a comfortable eight-shot lead over Cal Baptist in fourth position.
Play resumes Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. at The Farms Golf Club with the conclusion of round two, followed shortly by the final round of the event.
