
Meyer And Rutkowska Take Doubles Championship At Beach Tennis Invitational

The pair of freshmen went undefeated in doubles over three days.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Wiktoria Rutkowska and Dominique Meyer were 6-2 winners of Mezaros/Rees of Portland State, finishing the weekend 3-0 and claiming the doubles championship at the Beach Tennis Invitational.
Day three of doubles featured matches against Portland State for Long Beach State, with Rutkowska and Meyer closing off a perfect weekend with their win. Natalia Munoz and Lalita Devarakonda also won against the Vikings, winning 6-1 over Gerda Upeniece and Alli Valk.
The Beach fell in their third doubles match of the day, with Emma Bardet and Zara Lennon dropping a 6-3 decision to Sophia Chow and Maria Tyrina of USD.
In singles, Long Beach State played seven matches against San Diego. Solymar Colling won in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 over Wiktoria Rutkowska to finish the weekend unbeaten and claim the singles championship.
Long Beach State and San Diego split the remaining singles matches of the day. Freshman Emma Bardet won 6-2, 7-5 over Nicole Anderson, and Munoz won in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 against Daniela Morales. Zara Lennon was also a winner in three sets over Gemma Garcia 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
The Toreros picked up straight set wins over Devarakonda, Carlota Casasamperea and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri.
Following the tournament, Long Beach State will begin dual match play next week. The first dual match of the season will be a conference match at home, with the Beach hosting UC Riverside at Noon on Saturday, January 26 at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
