Women’s Soccer Ties School Record In 6-0 Win Over St. John’s

9/7/2018 10:26:00 PM | Women's Soccer

Early goals in both halves led Long Beach State to the blowout win.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State dominated both halves of play Friday against St. John's, tying a school record with six goals scored while holding the Red Storm to just six shots in a shutout in a 6-0 victory at George Allen Field.

Long Beach State (4-3-0) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, showcasing both quality and depth in the victory with 21 shots, 15 on frame and nine goals while getting 23 players onto the field and seeing the first goal of the season for four different players.

Action started within the first five minutes, as Rocio Rodriguez found Taylor Bistline at the top of the box, and the junior smashed home the first goal of the game in just the third minute to give the Beach a 1-0 lead over St. John's (3-4-0).

The Beach kept the pressure on, as Dana Fujikuni knocked home the second goal of the game in the 20th minute, and then scored again just over ten minutes later with a rainbow over the Red Storm keeper to make the game 3-0.

The second half featured more of the same with another lightning quick goal to start, as Rodriguez scored to go along with her two assists after just 25 seconds.

Head Coach Mauricio Ingrassia turned more to his bench in the second half, but the result didn't change much as junior Mackenzie Magaoay scored the first goal of her career in the 66th minute, and then Makayla Soll put away the sixth goal to put a stamp on the victory.

Imani McDonald made four saves in 58 minutes before giving way to Riana Castaneda who made her Long Beach State debut, as the pair combined for a shutout, the third of the season for the 49ers.

The Beach will hit the road for their next two matches, playing at No. 7 USC on Friday, September 14th before taking a trip to play BYU the following week.
