Doubles Wins Highlight Second Day In Vegas For Women’s Tennis

Munoz and Meyer claim the first ranked win of the season for Long Beach State.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Junior Natalia Munoz and freshman Dominique Meyer picked up a massive win to start the season, advancing to the doubles finals in the top flight with a victory over No. 37 Zhu/Huang of UNLV, highlighting a successful day in doubles at the UNLV Fall Invitational that featured three wins for the Beach.
 
                Munoz and Meyer earned the first ranked win of the season for the Beach, taking down the top pair from the hosts 8-6 to advance to the flight one championship in doubles. In the consolation side of that flight, Lalita Devarakonda and Zara Lennon were also winners, cruising to an 8-1 win over Ngo/Weiss of Southern Utah.
 
                Long Beach State will feature in the championship for the second flight of doubles as well, as Emma Bardet and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri were 8-3 winners over Bogoslavets/Kalachova of UNLV, leading to another match in the championship against Asano and Li of the Rebels, who defeated Carlota Casasampere and Wiktoria Rutkowska 8-2.
 
                In singles play, freshman Rutkowska advanced to the championship in flight four, bouncing back from a 6-0 loss in the first set to defeat Alba Pedrero Galindo of San Jose State, 0-6, 7-5, 6-3. Additional singles wins came in the consolation semifinals from Meyer and Bardet. Meyer defeated Southern Utah's Zoe Tanti in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 as did Bardet in a 6-3, 6-1 over Charity Sagaio, also from SUU.
 
                No. 49 Aiwen Zhu advanced over Zara Lennon in the top flight, while Chiara Tomasetti of NAU defeated Munoz in a hard-fought 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 decision.
 
                The Beach closes out their first tournament tomorrow, with play once again scheduled to start at 10 a.m. in Las Vegas.
