Men’s Golf Sits Fifth After Two Rounds at Ram Masters Invitational

Senior Niels Andersen shot 1-under on the day to pace the Beach to 5th place on the team leaderboard after the first day of the Ram Masters Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The first two rounds of the 2018-19 season are in the books, and Long Beach State men's golf sits in 5th place after day one of the Ram Masters Invitational, hosted by Colorado State. Senior Niels Andersen led the Beach by shooting 1-under on the day, placing him in a tie for 11th on the individual leaderboard.
Andersen's first round was relatively uneventful as he bogeyed his first hole of the day, but got a shot back on the 16th hole to finish with an even round. In his second round, however, he came out with three straight birdies to immediately go to 3-under on the day. He would then birdie the Par 5 15th to bring his score to 4-under for the round, but would eventually drop down to even par before making birdie on his final hole of the day.
Freshman Tyler Schafer got off to a terrific start in his collegiate debut, recording a birdie on his first hole and reaching 3-under with a birdie on the 16th. He would eventually end up with an even first round and went 1-over in round two, good enough to sit tied for 16th after the first two rounds.
Hunter Epson sits tied for 27th after his 3-over performance on the day. The junior shot an even-par 70 in his second round, which was reflective of the team's performance later in the day. Four of the five Long Beach State golfers scored better in their second round, and the team's combined score was seven shots better (288-281) going from round one to two.
While the host Rams were comfortable on their home course to the tune of an 11-shot lead on the rest of the field, Long Beach State currently sits just a shot back of third place entering Tuesday's final round. LBSU's first tee time in the final round is set for 7:55 a.m. PT and live scoring will be available via GolfStat.
