Dana Fujikuni had the breakthrough in the second half in a busy game for the LBSU offense.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State's winning streak continued on Sunday as the Beach dropped San Diego State 1-0 behind a goal from Dana Fujikuni and a shutout in her first collegiate start for redshirt freshman goalkeeper Ashley Seymour.
Long Beach State (3-1-0) had opportunities early and often, hitting the bar twice before Fujikuni's second-half tally and finishing with 21 shots in total against the Aztecs as the Beach continued their winning streak over San Diego State. LBSU has now won three in a row, (four unbeaten) with all three wins coming via shutout. The Beach hasn't lost since 2002 to the Aztecs at George Allen Field.
Despite finishing the first half with 13 shots, the Beach wasn't able to break through and went into halftime scoreless with San Diego State (1-2-0).
The second half started much the same, as the Beach worked a cross in for Nadiyah Siqueiros in the 48th minute, and the sophomore again hit the crossbar as the Aztecs escaped again.
The Beach finally broke through in the 65th minute, building from the back and finding the senior midfielder Fujikuni in a good position, who turned and fired from the top of the box to give Long Beach State the go-ahead goal.
That would be plenty for the LBSU defense, who recorded their second shutout in four games in front of redshirt freshman Seymour, who made four saves on six shots to come away with her first career shutout and victory.
Long Beach State returns to the road for their next game, traveling to face No. 21 Texas on Thursday, August 30 at 5 p.m. PT.
