Tempe, Ariz. - Long Beach State scored first to open the Tempe Regional against Ole Miss, but the Rebels took back the lead and opened up the game late as the Beach fell 9-1. LBSU will continue in the double-elimination regionals with at least one more game Saturday.
Long Beach State (42-13) struck first in the second inning. Julia Lombardi reached on an error, and after a bloop single from Tierra Falo, Grayce Majam singled to load the bases. A second error from Ole Miss (31-23) in the error brought home Lombardi to give the Beach a 1-0 lead.
Ole Miss bounced back however, scoring three in the third as Long Beach State made a couple of miscues. A one-out walk from Cielo Meza got the action started, and after the pitcher made an error to put two on, a second walk loaded the bags. Jessica Flores came into the circle for LBSU, but another walk, an error and a groundout brought home three runs to give the Rebels the lead.
The Rebels tacked on one more run with a solo home run from Abbey Latham in the sixth, and then Latham struck again in the top of the seventh, putting the cap on a five-run inning with a two run home run as Ole Miss took a 9-1 lead.
Long Beach State will play in the elimination game to start tomorrow, facing the loser of No. 6 Arizona State or New Mexico State at approximately 4:30 p.m.
