
Rodriguez Highlights Opening Day At Steve Scott Invitational

Irvine, Calif. - Long Beach State opened up its final competition prior to the Big West Championship with multiple season-bests, including a top ten mark in LBSU history in the women's hammer from Crystal Rodriguez.
Rodriguez threw a 54.13m toss, over 175 feet for the best mark of the year for the Beach, and the seventh best mark in the women's hammer in school history. Amanda Truong threw a career-best as well in the event for Long Beach State.
Long Beach State placed three in the top ten in the women's pole vault, led by Lauren Bartsch who placed in fourth place. Lea Fong took seventh place, and was matched in height in a PR by Hailee Brigman at 3.65 meters for eighth place.
Nicholas Hudson continued his strong performances in the hammer throw, finishing in second place with a throw of 61.26 meters, less than six inches under his season best, while Ryan Coy set a career-high with an eighth place finish. In the javelin, Jeffrey Pulcher threw a season best of 54.82 meters, placing sixth in the meet.
In the jumps, Jason Smith took third place in the long jump with a leap of 7.32 meters, while Jonathan Broadhead and Jackson Potter both set season highs in the vent. Sophomore Sydney Barnes continued her improvement in the vent, setting another season high by over a foot.
Out on the track, Trevor Stangle smashed his personal best in the 5K by over 30 seconds, running under 15 minutes at 14:58.32, while Alexis Ceballos also set a PR with a time of 18:24.02 in the PR.
The Steve Scott Invitational continues on Saturday, with nearly 50 Long Beach State student-athletes competing in the final meet prior to the Big West Championship.
