LONG BEACH, Calif. - Behind a career-best start from freshman Adam Seminaris, Long Beach State (6-11) picked up a comfortable 5-1 victory over visiting Washington State (4-9) on Wednesday night. The freshman threw seven innings of one-run ball and the Dirtbags offense gave him a 3-0 lead in the first inning as LBSU cruised to victory.
Seminaris was one strikeout shy of his career high with seven punchouts on the evening. He also allowed just three hits, while not issuing a walk or hitting a batter. He was able to throw 61 of his 86 pitches for strikes and had four 1-2-3 innings. Junior Eli Villalobos was perfect in relief, striking out three in his two innings of work.
LBSU got on the board quickly, scoring three times on three hits in the opening frame. Clayton Andrews started the rally with a one-out single and was brought home on a line-drive RBI knock by Brooks Stotler. After a stolen base from Stotler put two men in scoring position, both he and Laine Huffman were brought in on a two-out RBI single from freshman Leonard Jones. All of LBSU's five runs were scored with two outs, and both stolen bases on the night led directly to a run during the at bat.
Freshman catcher Chris Jimenez had an RBI double in the fifth to score Jarren Duran, giving Jimenez 10 RBIs on the season to lead the squad. Duran scored again in the seventh after his sixth stolen base of the year, brought in on an RBI single from Laine Huffman.
