
No. 21 Long Beach State Shuts Out San Diego State

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State battled both Mother Nature and San Diego State on Saturday at the LBSU Softball Complex, and came away with a rain-shortened 5-0 victory over the Aztecs.
With a steady rain falling through most of the game, both teams had to deal with the elements, but it was Long Beach State (19-6) that got the early edge.

Cielo Meza retired the side in order to start the game, and then the Beach put up three runs in the bottom half of the first inning. A walk to Nichole Fry, a single by Naomi Hernandez, and a walk to Jessica Flores loaded the bases with no outs. A wild pitch from Marissa Moreno brought home Fry, and then two RBI groundouts scored two more as the Beach took a 3-0 lead.
Flores came around to score unearned in the third inning. Julia Lombardi then singled to start the fourth inning, coming around to score on an RBI single from Fry making the score 5-0.
Meza continued her excellent form, allowing three hits over five innings while striking out seven in her fifth complete game shutout of the season.
A final uptick in the precipitation prompted an early end to the game after five innings.
With more rain expected on Saturday, game times for the final day of the Louisville Slugger Invitational have been adjusted. Ohio State and UCLA will play at 11:30 a.m. now, with No. 21 Long Beach State and No. 3 UCLA closing the tournament following at around 2 p.m.
