Long Beach State Chosen First in Big West Conference Coaches Poll

The top-ranked Beach begin the season on January 3
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The top-ranked Long Beach State men's volleyball team has been selected to win the Big West Conference according to the league's annual coaches preseason poll. The poll, which was voted on by the six conference head coaches, was released on Friday.
The Beach were a unanimous selection to win the 2019 Big West Championship as they garnered all six first-place votes for a total of 36 points.
Hawai'i finished second with 28 points, while UC Irvine was chosen third with 26 points. UC Santa Barbara claimed fourth place with 16 points, while CSUN (11 points) and UC San Diego (9 points) rounded out the poll.
The reigning National Champions return five AVCA All-Americans in Josh Tuaniga, TJ DeFalco, Kyle Ensing, Nick Amado and Simon Andersen. Tuaniga was named the 2018 National Player of the Year and the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament, while DeFalco garnered Big West Player of the Year honors.
The Beach are led by three-time AVCA Division I-II National Coach of the Year, Alan Knipe, who will begin his 16th season at the helm.
Long Beach State opens the 2019 campaign with an exhibition tournament Dec. 29 – 31, with the regular season set to begin on January 3 against No. 14 Grand Canyon at the UCSB Asics Invitational. The Beach's home opener is slated for Friday, January 25 when LBSU hosts USC at 7 p.m. inside the Walter Pyramid.
