The 6’4” forward comes to the Beach from Las Vegas.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State women's basketball head coach Jeff Cammon has announced that Christina Thames has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the program in the fall of 2019.
"Christina is a wonderful young lady and a great student who comes from a basketball family," said Cammon. "She's a long, athletic post player who can run like a guard, and is passionate about the game of basketball. It's not easy to find size, and when you see someone with the natural gifts that Christina has, we jumped at the opportunity to bring her to the Beach.
"It's great to bring in players who want it, who are coachable and want to improve. Christina will take some time to develop, but she can help us right away defensively and on the boards. We're excited to get her into our program, help her realize her potential, and put her into a position to succeed. She has a really high ceiling, and we think she can be a fantastic talent."
A 6'4" forward from Las Vegas, Thames averaged 10 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks per game as a junior at Shadow Ridge High School. Over two seasons at Shadow Ridge, Thames has made over 100 blocks and 300 rebounds. She spent her freshman year at Kingman High School in Arizona, competing in multiple sports before focusing on basketball.
The young LBSU squad has just one senior in 2018-19 and is set to bring back nearly the entire roster next season with the addition of Thames.
