
Long Beach State Earns Four-Set Win at Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Long Beach State women's volleyball team turned in a solid team effort that saw several career-high and season-best performances as the Beach collected a 3-1 [25-19, 24-26, 25-19, 25-20] victory at Cal State Fullerton Saturday night.
The Beach (15-13, 7-8 Big West) were led offensively by senior Tyler Spriggs' 21-kill showing as she paced three players in double figures. Spriggs also contributed on the defensive end with 10 digs for a double-double. Joining Spriggs in double digits were freshmen Allison Martinez and Kashauna Williams. Martinez finished the match with 17 kills, a new collegiate career-high, while Williams' 15 kills were just one off her season-best.
Long Beach State's offense was piloted by freshman Carly Aigner-Swesey who dished out a collegiate career-high 58 assists which led to a .336 attack percentage.
The Beach kept the Titans (6-21, 0-14 Big West) off balance with a solid defensive effort led by Hailey Harward in the back row. Harward distributed a season-high 26 digs, while adding four aces and two assists.
At the net, Spriggs posted four total blocks (one solo and three block assists) to lead the team, while Emma Kirst and YiZhi Xue each added three.
LBSU started the match off hot as the Beach hit .429 in the first set and limited the Titans to .143 hitting. Long Beach State used a 5-0 run to take a 15-8 lead that it would not relinquish as the Beach took the first set, 25-19.
Cal State Fullerton fought back in the second set and managed to earned a 26-24 win behind six kills from Felicia Marshall and four from Summer Kerins.
With the match tied, one set to one, Long Beach State came out swinging in the third set kicking off the frame on a 6-0 run. The Beach would lead throughout the set and go on to win 25-19.
The fourth set saw both team's offenses firing as the Beach hit .375 and the Titans hit .359. However, Long Beach State broke a 15-15 tie on a kill from Spriggs that would put the Beach up for good. Long Beach State rattled off three straight points highlighted by an ace by Harward to push it to set point, 24-18, before going on to win the set, 25-20.
Cal State Fullerton's Marshall finished the match with 20 kills, while Kerins added 11 to go along with six blocks. Meanwhile, Mackenzi Abelman posted 39 assists and nine digs, while Savahna Costello added 13 digs.
Long Beach State returns home to close out the season against CSUN on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m.
