Fryer’s Solid Day Caps Off MacKenzie Invitational

Long Beach State men’s golf finished up the Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Tuesday with three golfers finishing under par for the event.
FAIRFAX, Calif. -- Senior Joe Fryer shot a 3-under round of 68 on Tuesday to lead Long Beach State in the final round of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Northern California. Fryer finished at 2-under for the tournament, putting him in a tie for 27th on the leaderboard.
Starting on the back nine, Fryer hit the ground running with a birdie on the ninth, following up with birdies on 12 and 15. After a bogey on 17, he made the turn and picked up shots on Nos. 1, 4 and 5 to sit at 5-under at one point during his round.
Fryer was one of three Long Beach State golfers to finish under par for the weekend, as both Patrick Pockels and Hunter Reed finished with a 1-under total of 212 for the week. Pockels fired his second straight round of 70 on Tuesday while Reed recorded an even-par 71. Both players finished in a tie for 31st overall. Also starting on the back nine, Pockels had a terrific run from 15-17, going birdie-eagle-birdie to move to 4-under on his round.
Long Beach State's team total of 281 in round three was the sixth-best team score of the day as the Beach moved up to a 10th place finish for the tournament.
Next up for the Beach is Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational, a three-day tournament beginning on Thursday, Oct. 25 in Stockton, Calif.
