Women’s Tennis Closes Out Beach Tennis Tournament

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State finished off a busy weekend at the Rhodes Tennis Center on Sunday, with one match each in doubles and singles for all eight players for the Beach.
"Fall is an important time for development for us, especially with 7 underclassmen," said head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "We saw a lot of things that were very good this weekend and we saw a few areas that need improvement. All in all, it was a good weekend of tennis for us."
Long Beach State had three players competing in main draw championships on Sunday. In doubles, Dominique Meyer and Natalia Munoz reached the flight one finals, but lost 6-3 to Tiffany Mylonas and Hikaru Sato of Washington State. Freshman Emma Bardet reached the finals in the third flight of singles, but also fell to the Cougars' Anete Miksovska 7-6, 6-3.
Meyer claimed a win in the consolation bracket of flight two in singles, winning a great match with Eira Tobrand of Cal State Fullerton 7-5, 7-6.
The Beach had a trio of singles winners in arranged matches, with Lalita Devarakonda defeating Lotti Meszaros of Portland State 6-3, 6-3, while Natalia Munoz defeated Emilia Occhipinti of Grand Canyon 7-6, 6-3.
Sophomore Sadaf Sadeghvaziri won twice on Sunday, taking a singles victory before defeating Cal State Fullerton's Taylor Valenzuela and Tiana Jadulang with Wiktoria Rutkowska 6-2.
Long Beach State is off this coming weekend, and will continue fall tournament play at the ITA Southwest Regionals beginning on Thursday, October 18.
