LBSU Sees Busy Day Of Singles In Second Day Of Beach Tennis Tournament

Long Beach State’s Natalia Munoz and Dominique Meyer reached the flight one doubles finals.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Two rounds of singles action were played Saturday at the Rhodes Tennis Center as the second day of competition was completed at Long Beach State's fall tournament, the Beach Tennis Tournament.
Long Beach State's eight student-athletes combined to play 12 total singles matches in a busy day on the courts, but the most impressive result may have come in doubles, where the Beach had two teams competing in the main draw to reach the doubles championship in the top flight.
Natalia Munoz and Dominique Meyer continued their impressive run with a 7-5 win over Washington State's Yang Lee and Anete Miksovska. They'll play the Cougars' Hikaru Sato and Tiffany Mylonas, who were 6-1 winners in the other semifinal against Long Beach State's Emma Bardet and Lalita Devarakonda.
Bardet was a double winner to highlight Long Beach State's day in singles. The sophomore, competing in the third flight, opened the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Valentina Mokrova of Grand Canyon, and then reached that flight's championship match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sofiya Gaisina of LMU.
In the top flight, Munoz was a 6-2, 6-0 winner of Jadie Aciedera of Cal State Fullerton to advance to the semifinals in the main draw, but fell to Tiffany Mylonas of Washington State 6-1, 7-6 after dropping a competitive tiebreaker.
Meyer won a pair of matches in the consolation draw of the second flight, winning 6-2, 6-2 over Alli Valk of Portland State before dropping Martina Lo Pumo of Grand Canyon 6-3, 6-3. Also grabbing a win in singles Saturday was freshman Wiktoria Rutkowska, who defeated Autum Prudhomme of Grand Canyon 6-2, 6-1 before falling in the third flight semifinals.
The tournament's final day begins Sunday with doubles competition starting at 9 a.m., including the championship featuring Meyer/Munoz. Admission remains free at the Rhodes Tennis Center, but fans should note that reaching the courts will be difficult due to road closures for the Long Beach Marathon being held in the morning so plan accordingly.
