Long Beach State will once again have rooting interest in the MLB Postseason this year as former shortstop Garrett Hampson is on the official roster of the Colorado Rockies.

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Just over two months after making his Major League debut, rookie infielder Garrett Hampson has been officially included on the 25-man roster for the Colorado Rockies as they begin the National League Division Series (NLDS) on Thursday in Milwaukee. The 23-year-old Hampson was also on the squad for Colorado's Wild Card Game victory over the Chicago Cubs, and he gives Long Beach State fans a player to root for during this postseason.

Hampson had a few successful stints with the Rockies during his rookie campaign, staying up for good as a September call-up. His speed on the bases and defensive versatility made him a valuable asset for the Rockies during their postseason run, earning him a spot on the NLDS roster.

In 24 games at the big-league level this year, Hampson hit .275 with an impressive .396 on-base percentage. He totaled 11 base hits with three doubles and a triple, and stole a pair of bases without being caught. Hampson was one of 13 former Dirtbags at the big league level this season, and one of three to make his MLB debut in 2018.

Long Beach State also has a pair of relief pitchers who helped their teams reach the postseason this year. Bryan Shaw (Colorado) and Shane Carle (Atlanta) were both key members of their respective bullpens—each appearing in over 50 games this season—and both could be added to their team's postseason roster later in the playoffs.

Hampson and the Rockies begin the NLDS on Thursday at 2 p.m. PT with game one against the Milwaukee Brewers. The game can be seen live on FS1.
