Long Beach State Closes Time At ITA Southwest Regionals

The Beach has one more fall tournament remaining.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Long Beach State's main draw competitors were knocked out in the Round of 32 at the ITA Southwest Regionals, while the Beach picked up six other wins in San Diego on Friday.
Emma Bardet and Lalita Devarakonda faced a tough challenge in the Round of 32 for doubles, facing the second seed in #27 Angela Kuliokov and Rianna Valdes of USC, but acquitted themselves well in an 8-3 loss. Wiktoria Rutkowska and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri fell by the same margin to Solymar Colling and Maria Torres of San Diego, while in singles, Carlota Casasampere lost in straight sets to Pepperdine's Adrijana Lekaj.
Outside of the main draw, Long Beach State had an excellent day in singles. Bardet got the action rolling with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Natalia Shamma of UC Riverside, the first of five wins in singles on Friday. Also grabbing a win over a Highlander was Zara Lennon in a 6-0, 6-3 effort.
Natalia Munoz held off Abbie Mulberger of San Diego State 6-2, 3-6, 10-8, and Rutkowska won over Mia Smith from the Aztecs 7-5, 6-4. Devarakonda was the final singles victor of the day, winning 6-3, 7-5 over Emilia Occhipinti from Grand Canyon.
The Beach split their extra doubles matches, with Lennon/Munoz defeating Abbeta Houbova and Michelle Pits of Hawai'i 6-0, while Casasampere/Meyer fell 6-2 to Alcon/Toboso of CSUN.
Long Beach State will finish up fall tournament play when the team participates in the CSUN Fall Invitational from November 9 to November 11.
