Long Beach State Drops Final Game In MPSF Invite

No. 9 Long Beach State fell to No. 6 Pacific in the final game of the MPSF Invite, 10-9.
STANFORD, Calif. – No. 9 Long Beach State (7-9) looked to place seventh in the final day of the MPSF Invite against No. 6 Pacific (8-7), but fell in a close one, 10-9. Pacific would jump to a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game but the Beach would respond to be down by one at the end of the first period with a score of 3-2. Pacific would score once more to put themselves up 4-2 but LBSU would strike twice before the half to tie the game, including a goal coming with 39 seconds left in the half to stay at 4-4.
Pacific would take the lead again in the third period but the Beach would stay on pace with them as the quarter went on. The Beach was down by one but would tie the game up at 7-7 with 3:03 left to play in the third. LBSU would strike again 30 seconds later and put them up 8-7 for their first lead of the game. At the end of the third, the Beach would have a one goal lead, 9-8. Pacific would score twice more in the fourth to end the game at 10-9.
On the scoresheet for the Beach were junior Austin Stewart, freshman Aaron Arias, and senior Chandler Kaltenbach. Freshman Theodoros Pateros would score twice in the match, while freshman Garrett Zaan would lead the beach with four goals in the match.
The Beach will be back in action at home, Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. against No. 3 USC.
