Long Beach State Dropped Doubleheader Games Against USC and UC Santa Barbara

No. 9 Long Beach State lost to No. 3 USC, 14-8, and No. 5 UC Santa Barbara, 11-9, on Saturday.
STANFORD, Calif. – No. 9 Long Beach State looked to pull two wins in their doubleheader Saturday against No. 3 USC and No. 5 UC Santa Barbara, but were unable to do so losing to USC, 14-8 and then in a close battle to UC Santa Barbara, 11-9. The Beach will close out the tournament on Sunday for the seventh place game.
The Beach opened their Saturday against USC. After one quarter, the Trojans were in the lead 2-0. The Trojans would strike twice more before the Beach would get on the score board. At the half, the Trojans were in the lead 8-2. The game would keep the same pace, leaving the Beach and the Trojans with a final score of 14-8.
For the Beach, a pair of freshmen would score in the second quarter with Garrett Zaan and Joshua Spence. Zaan would score again in the fourth, while junior Johnathan Wong and senior Max Cusator would score in the third. Another pair of freshmen would end the scoring sheet with goals coming from Aaron Arias and Matt Morris.
In the second part of their doubleheader, the Beach would take on UC Santa Barbara. The Beach would come out strong jumping to a 2-0 lead, but the Gauchos would tie it up 2-2 at the end of one. LBSU would score twice more in the second but UCSB would lead 5-4 at half. The Beach would fight until the end but come up short 11-9.
Leading scores for the Beach would be junior Austin Stewart with four goals. Following Stewart would be Wong, Zaan, Cusator, Morris, and freshman Theodoros Pateros.
The Beach will wrap the MPSF Invite tomorrow, Sunday Oct. 14 at 10 a.m.
