Simon Anderson Named Big West Freshman Player of the Week

LONG BEACH –Simon Anderson was named the first Big West Men’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week after helping No. 2 Long Beach State to a 4-0 start to the 2018 season.
Anderson made his collegiate debut tallying six kills and four blocks while hitting .545 (6-0-11) against McKendree last Wednesday.
He went on to knock down seven kills and post a pair of blocks versus Princeton to open the UCSB ASICS Tournament. Anderson continued his solid performances with seven kills and three blocks against NJIT, before closing out the tournament against Saint Francis (Pa.) with six kills and two blocks. He would hit .484 (20-5-31) during the tournament.
The Middlefart, Denmark native finished the week with 26 kills and 11 blocks to average 2.00 kills and 0.85 blocks per set. Anderson hit .500 (26-5-42) in the first week of the season.
Anderson and the Beach will be back in action this week at No. 11 Lewis on Friday, Jan. 12 at 5 p.m., before taking on No. 7 Loyola Chicago on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m.
