No. 6 Long Beach State Opens MPSF Invitational With Win

Los Angeles, Calif. — No. 6 Long Beach State opened play at the MPSF Invitational with a 11-8 win against No. 12 Princeton.

The Beach (8-3) got things going in the first quarter taking a 3-1 lead after the first quarter. Troy Kaltenbach, Chandler Kaltenbach and Max Cusator netted goals to get the offense going early.

LBSU's defense held strong in the second quarter allowing Princeton to score one goal. The Beach outscored the Tigers 3-1 to take a 6-2 lead at halftime.

Senior Duncan Lynde scored twice, while Austin Stewart scored once.

The Beach's defense allowed four goals in the third, but matched it with four goals of their own to take a 10-6 lead into the fourth quarter.

Austin Stevenson, C. Kaltenbach, Cusator and Lee Griffin got on the board. C. Kaltenbach and Cusator each scored two goals in the game.

In the final quarter, LBSU was outscored 2-1, but came away with the win.

Junior Thomas Freeman had 12 saves in goal. Freeman also came up big with two 5-meter penalty shots saves.

The Beach will face No. 3 Stanford Saturday at 12:45 p.m. at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
