Josh Tuaniga Named Off The Block Setter of the Year

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State sophomore setter Josh Tuaniga was named the 2017 recipient of the Lloy Ball Award, which is presented to the nation's best setter in NCAA Division I-II men's volleyball during the regular season. The announcement was made Monday by Off the Block.
Tuaniga garnered the honor after setting the tone of the most efficient offense in the country with a nation-best average of 11.13 assists per set, while the Beach hit .371, which was also tops in the nation. He was named to the All-MPSF First Team for his performance during the regular season.
The product out of Long Beach, Calif., and Huntington Beach High School helped LBSU win the MPSF Tournament for the first time in program history as he also garnered All-MPSF Tournament team honors his efforts.
After being named a finalist for the Lloy Ball Award a year ago, Tuaniga came back as a sophomore and earned more votes than the other top-five vote-getters combined.
In addition to pacing the Beach's offense with 1,102 assists, Tuaniga is hitting .474 (69-14-116) on the year, while adding 1.41 digs per set and 0.61 blocks per contest.
Tuaniga has amassed a total of 2,466 assists in his collegiate career to rank eighth all-time at Long Beach State.
The Lloy Ball Award is named for the former Fort Wayne All-American and U.S. Olympian setter. Below are the 2017 voting results.
