
LBSU Takes Sixth, Fryer Places 16th At Cal Poly Shootout

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - Long Beach State tied the lowest score of the day with a final round 359 to finish in sixth place at the Cal Poly Shootout at Cypress Ridge Golf Course.
Playing as a "six-count-five" scoring format, LBSU climbed one spot up in the team standings, finishing with a three-round score of 27-over-par 1107. The 49ers tied with tournament host Cal Poly for the day's lowest score.
UC Santa Barbara captured the team title with a 22-under 1058, as the Gauchos led the nine-team field by 24 shots over second-place UC Irvine (+2) and 25 strokes over the Mustangs (+3) in third.
Redshirt sophomore Joe Fryer was the top player for the 49ers for the fifth consecutive tournament and sixth time this year. For the third consecutive round, Fryer carded a 72 to move up three spots to finish in 16th with an even-216.
Freshman Kymer Li posted a 71 to move up six spots, tying for 20th at 3-over 219, while sophomore Patrick Pockels turned in his best round of the tournament with a 70, jumping eight spots to tie for 24th at 4-over 220.
Senior Agostino Milazzo remained tied for 35th after shooting a 74 to finish at 9-over 225, while freshman Hunter Reed recorded his best round of the tournament, carding a 72 to move up five spots to tie for 53rd at 19-over 235.
Despite withdrawing from Monday's opening round due to an injury, sophomore Andres Gonzalez recorded a 73 in Monday's second round and shot a 74 in Tuesday's final round. Gonzalez's rounds did not count towards the team scores.
The Anteaters' David Kim captured individual medalist with an 8-under 208, winning by one-shot over Luis Medina (-7) of New Mexico State.
The 49ers return to action on Monday, May 1, for the three-day, 54-hole Big West Conference Men's Golf Championship at Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara.
