RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Junior Cole Hicks led Long Beach State on the second day at the UCR Spring Break Invitational as he won the decathlon with a career-best 6,829 points.

Hicks' point total ranks him 10th all-time at Long Beach State in the event. After having a solid first day, Hicks came back and continued his success on day two as he finished the 110-meter hurdles in 16.38 and the 1500-meter run in 4:56.53. In the field, he posted a distance of 43.92m (144-01.00) in the discus, 4.70m (15-05.00) in the pole vault, and 53.62m (175-11.00) in the javelin.

On the final day of the multi-events, the Lake Elsinore, Calif., native improved from eighth place to first as he claimed gold in the event.

Hicks paced teammates Herman Day and Jackson Potter in the event. Day would finish the multi-events in ninth place, which was two spots ahead of where he finished last night. Day completed the decathlon with 5,992 points.

Potter concluded his first-ever decathlon showing with a 14th place finish after tallying 5,361 total points.

On the women's side, Riley Cooks continued her solid effort from day one as she finished the heptathlon with a score of 5,432 for second place. Her score was just shy of her school-record performance of 5,569 points which she set a year ago at the same meet.

Cooks remained in second place since day one after recording a mark of 6.08m in the long jump, before notching a tally of 33.08m in the javelin, and a time of 2:20.93 in the 800-meter run.

The quartet was the only Long Beach State student-athletes to see action on Friday. The remainder of the Beach squad will come out in full force on Saturday, March 25 on the third and final day of competition.
