LONG BEACH, Calif. - The home locker room at Blair Field has been updated and rebranded for the 2017 season, giving the Dirtbags a an improved clubhouse to call home. Through the generosity of key supporters Marilyn Bohl, RMD Group, Bob Foster and Jim Hayes, an updated Dirtbags locker room has come to fruition, continuing the ongoing efforts to revitalize Blair Field.
"The improvement to our locker room does a great job in demonstrating the history of this storied program and creates a better home for our players and staff," said Long Beach State head coach Troy Buckley. "It is very important for our current players to understand and visually see the players and coaches who made this program what it is. We are very grateful to Marilyn Bohl and the other supporters for making this project happen."
"We are committed to upholding and building upon the championship culture of our Dirtbags program," said Rob Clark, LBSU Senior Associate AD for External Relations/Communications. "This is a great step in that direction."
Included in the update is a new set of lockers for players and coaches, improved flooring and bathroom facilities, updates to the athletic training room, an improved coaches area with a new fueling station, as well as updates to Coach Buckley's office. The most striking component of the project is the graphic displays on the locker room walls, celebrating the rich tradition of Long Beach State baseball. That includes a timeline of LBSU's baseball history, a Road to Omaha Wall celebrating the Dirtbags' achievements in postseason play, and an "LB in MLB" wall honoring all the former Long Beach State players who have gone on to play Major League Baseball.
"I believe that the enhanced locker room environment will help to inspire and emphasize to the current and future teams that being a Dirtbag is being a part of something special--that it brings with it honor, opportunity and responsibility," said Marilyn Bohl, whose generous contributions to Long Beach State and Blair Field made these improvements possible.
The Dirtbags locker room project will also be included on the upcoming television show, RMD Design, which airs on the Velocity Network. The show is scheduled to premiere in September of this year and will feature RMD Group CEO Ralph Holguin and his innovative custom designs.
"Our passion for this project was fueled by the opportunity to impact our local community and to design a space that allowed the LBSU Dirtbags to dream of something bigger," Holguin said. "We live by that motto and that's why everything we do is about designing in a way that empowers others to do better."
Long Beach State will be inside its new locker room this weekend, hosting No. 5 Cal State Fullerton for a key non-conference series at Blair Field. Game one is Friday at 6 p.m. and, like all Friday home games this season, will be followed by a postgame fireworks show.
