Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State began its weekend slate of games on Friday against Whittier and No. 6 Michigan. The Beach absolutely dominated the Poets from start to finish but could not hang with the Wolverines to complete the Friday sweep.

No. 15 Long Beach State 18, Whittier 2

Just like last night's game, Alexandra Massier got the Beach started on the offensive end as she scored from the inside off a nice feed from Tori Morrissey at the 5:10 mark in the opening period. Morrissey would score about two minutes later to give the Beach a 2-0 lead. Raney Remme got in on the offense with 2:46 left in the first with a goal assisted by Marilia Mimidi. Whittier would score its first goal about 30 seconds later to make it a 3-1 game in favor of Long Beach State after the first period.

It was more of the same in the second period for LBSU. Virginia Smith opened the scoring with a no-look, backhand goal, reminiscent of Jackie Stanger's goal from a night ago. Christina Kotsia scored her first of three goals in the period with 6:15 left in the second off a nice pass from Virginia Smith. 40 seconds later, Whittier got a rare six-on-four opportunity and took advantage to make it a 5-2 game. Kotsia's second and third goals came later in the period to give her a hat trick in the first half and a 7-2 lead for the Beach at the break.

The Beach blew the game open in the second half thanks to suffocating defense which led to a whopping 11 goals scored.

In the third period, Christina Kotsia recorded her team-leading fourth goal of the game, Annabel Harman scored twice, Jackie Stanger scored on a breakaway after stealing the ball away from Whittier and Luiza Moraes converted a five-meter penalty shot to give Long Beach State a 12-2 lead after three.

The Beach scored six more times in the fourth period. Luiza Moraes score twice to complete the hat trick, Lacey Sedor scored her first goal of the season, Raney Remme scored from the inside and Jackie Stanger scored her second breakaway goal of the game as LBSU went on to win in convincing fashion by a score of 18-2 over Whittier.

Goalie Eirini Patras finished with four saves and two steals.

No. 6 Michigan 14, No. 15 Long Beach State 4

The Beach was back in the water at 3 p.m. to take on No. 6 Michigan.

Christina Kotsia got Long Beach State on the board in the first period with a power play goal assisted by Virginia Smith. But the Wolverines would score three times and held a 3-1 lead after one.

In the second period, Raney Remme scored from the inside with just 36 seconds left in the half and Christina Kotsia scored her second goal of the game on a five-meter penalty shot with just five seconds left, but Michigan's offense managed to score five times in the second as the Wolverines led 8-3 at the break.

It was all Michigan in the third period as the Wolverines scored five goals and held the Beach scoreless to take a 13-3 lead into the fourth.

Marilia Mimidi scored for LBSU in the final period thanks to a nice pass from Christina Kotsia. Michigan would add one more goal and would go on to win by a score of 14-4 over Long Beach State.
