Gerard, Razakasoa Claim Doubles Title at UNLV Invitational

Las Vegas, Nev. - Beach Tennis concluded its opening weekend of the fall schedule on Sunday, wrapping up play at the UNLV Invitational. Highlighting the weekend for the Beach was the doubles team of Julie Gerard and Maeva Razakasoa, winners of the Flight No. 2 doubles title. The two French seniors defeated USC's pair of Angela Kulikov and Madison Westby, 8-6, in Sunday's final to cap off a perfect 3-0 weekend.
Both Gerard and Razakasoa won their singles matches Sunday, as well, with Razakasoa taking third place in the No. 1 singles flight with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Fresno State's Katerina Stloukalova. Gerard, meanwhile, earned a comeback win over Blanka Szavay on Northern Arizona in the Flight No. 2 consolation final, winning 3-6, 7-6, 6-1. Overall, Gerard and Razakasoa were each 5-1 for the weekend.
Also in the No. 2 singles flight, senior Hayley Thompson won her third place match, defeating Aneta Miksovska of Washington State, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Maren Helgo won her third place match in the No. 4 singles flight, coming out on top after a good battle with Fresno State's Georgia Lawson, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Freshman Lena Pacholski had a chance at the consolation championship in the No. 3 singles flight, but came up short against UNLV's Paola Artiga, 7-6, 6-3.
Coming up on the Beach schedule, Razakasoa will compete at the 2016 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Razakasoa will begin the qualifying round on Oct. 4-5, looking to reach the main draw on Oct. 6-9.
The next team action for Long Beach State will be back home at Rhodes Tennis Center Oct. 7-9 for the Beach Tennis Fall Invite.
